IBM has a Problem with Pollution

IBM is being sued by several Endicott residents for the release of the toxic chemicals trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene into the Upstate New York urban area. Their old building sits in Endicott with their phrase "Think" on both wings of the building. It remains a testament to how wealthy the area used to be before IBM picked up and left town. Now the town has several cases of Autism and other related syndromes that have been hypothesized by locals to be linked with the pollution in the area. Furthermore, the area is lagging in economic growth and prosperity.

Every time I visit Endicott and drive by the old IBM building I wonder how such an outstanding opportunity became a failure and environmental hazard to its family. It was left a relic of the corporate America that enabled my grandfather to support his wife and 11 children.

J.R.R. Tolkien said “Deep roots are not reached by frost.” IBM, I think you have forgotten the most important part of growing. You aught to re-Think your Endicott relationship. Perhaps when people believe you are looking out for their best interest and not your profit margins you would have increased productivity, etc. etc.

With the recent economic woes as icing on the cake it is no surprise that your losing 2,800 people in the United States.

I sincerely hope IBM remains true to their words that are set in stone.
